Central Park Gardens - Davis, California
Come visit the volunteer-managed demonstration garden in Davis' Central Park!
The Central Park Gardens are located in
Davis' award-winning Central Park, home of the Davis Farmers
Market. The gardens were established on the western side of
the park along B Street in the early 1990s as part of a major park
renovation and expansion project. Planted by volunteers 15 years
ago, the gardens originally contained roses, herbs, and drought
tolerant perennials and shrubs.
A community effort has been underway since spring of 2006 to bring
new life to the gardens. Volunteers from the UC Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, the Davis Farm to
School Connection, and the Davis Garden Club are partnering with the City of
Davis to coordinate the renovation of the gardens and improve their
long-term maintenance. The goal of the project is to create
beautiful demonstration gardens and engaging educational programs that
will motivate home gardeners in the region to adopt more sustainable
gardening practices. The gardens will also serve as a place for
garden-based children's activities and family programs.
