Meadow
A small lawn space in this area previously divided the gardens in half. We replaced the lawn with a meadow of ornamental bunchgrasses and bulbs, and we plan to connect the north and south sides of the garden with continuous pathways. The low height of the grasses in the meadow will maintain a view corridor into the park from B Street. Native and non-native ornamental grasses provide a variety of textures and movement to the meadow and show home gardeners an alternative to the traditional front lawn. Click here to download an inventory list of plants in the meadow from October 2007.

| The meadow was planted this spring with a variety of grasses, bulbs, and perennials. The Island pink yarrow grew quickly and erupted into bloom a few weeks after planting. |
A drift of flowering blue grama grass caught the early
morning light in this late summer scene. |
| We are still seeking funding and volunteer support for
creating a new pathway through the middle of the meadow. |
